Common Proficiency Test
What is CA CPT?
Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is a centralized eligibility test to do CA course, which is conducted by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The test is taken after 10+2 for admission into Chartered Accountancy course.
The FOUR hour CPT test consists of objective questions That are mentioned Below
  1. FUNDAMENTALS OF ACCOUNTS
  2. MARCANTILE LAW
  3. GENERAL ECONOMICS
  4. QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE.
The CPT test is divided in to TWO sessions; each session contains 100 objective questions.
  • Session-I contains 100 objective questions; 60 from FUNDAMENTALS OF ACCOUNTS and 40 from MARCANTILE LAW. Each correct answer carries 1 mark, for every wrong answer¼ mark will be deducted.
  • Session-II contains 100 objective questions; 50 from GENERAL ECONOMICS and 50 from QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE. Each correct answer carries 1 mark, for every wrong answer ¼ mark will be deducted.
 Note*:  Examination Will Be Conducted twice in a year JUNE & DECEMBER every year.
  • Last date for CPT Registration is – APRIL 4th for JUNE attempt and OCTOBER 4th for DECEMBER attempt.
  • Results will be announced in the last week of JULY for JUNE attempt in the last week of January for December attempt.
CPT Eligibility:
Students can register for the Common Proficiency Course (CPC) after passing 10th examination and can appear in the CPT either on appearing or passing 10+2 examination. validity for CPT registration is 3 years, thereafter revalidation is made after every 3 years.
CA CPT EXAM Notification:
CPT is held twice in a year in June and
December month. Notification for CPT June exam publishes in February and for CPT December exam notification publishes in August.
CA CPT Exam Pattern:
  • Total Marks: 200.
  • Paper Type: Objective – Multiple choice questions
  • Language of paper: English / Hindi
  • Marking: There will be negative marking for incorrect answer. 25% marks will be deduced for incorrect answer.

CA CPT Passing Criteria:
To pass/qualify CA CPT Exam a candidate must obtain minimum 30% in each subject and 50% overall. Candidates who ranked among top 10 will get scholarship.
Syllabus for CPT (Session I)
CPT Session I:
CPT Session I is divided into two sections, first is Fundamentals of Accounting and second is Mercantile Laws. These two sections together carries 100 marks and maximum two hours (120 min) allowed to solve these papers.
  • Fundamentals of Accounting Syllabus:
This section carries total 60 marks and objective of this section is to develop conceptual understanding of the fundamentals of financial accounting system.
